Project Dolphin Post-Mortem

Project Dolphin is over. The adventure is just beginning. I didn't realize how different I'd feel on the other side of it despite nothing in my life having changed yet. Let's break it down.

What happened?

I thought of this a while ago and have been working on it consistently. Being an astrology geek, I know how crazy you can drive yourself if you let the sky clock dictate when you do things. It's the same thing with stocks analysis. 😫 But it can serve as a nice lens to use to pick spots where the archetypal winds are at your back rather than across you.

Considering all this, I wanted to publish my demo before Uranus entered Gemini, and after Jupiter entered Cancer. As a simple target, I picked the summer solstice on June 20th. It's a nice general landmark day anyway. Longest day of the year. Space weather's neat. Let's aim for it!

As the deadline approached, I realized what it would take if I wanted to hit the deadline. I began gradually putting other things on hold, eventually even projects that mean a lot to me.

I missed the target by about 9 days but we're WELL within the margin of error.

Publishing the Syd Roc Analytics page with the demo on it was a momentous event.

I consider it the birth of my business. I took a screenshot of the moment on AstroGold. Here's SRA's birth chart. 😊

What now?

Now that SRA is a fait accompli I'm putting it in my pocket. For all sorts of reasons I'm not ready to shout it out from the roof tops but IYKYK. There's a reason my offering isn't directly accessible from the homepage, or any of the navbar sections except "About Me". Technically the changelog too but that's gonna get buried.

I'll continue to call Syd Roc Analytics "Project Dolphin" in public, although PD is technically version 1.0 of the demo itself - the concrete, deliverable thing that made SRA exist.

What's next?

Space Vibes is by far my favorite side project to work on. Hours after publishing I was excited to realize I can finally get back to it. I've already taken a look at the space data for September and October

Space Vibes is dataviz. It's just that my goal is to entertain an EXTREMELY SMALL GROUP of people and to give everyone else a vague sense of the vibe.

I also can't wait to get back to writing. The topics of creativity, personal development and technology have been passions of mine for as long as I can remember. Project Dolphin was a satisfying way to apply all three in harmony and I'm sure it'll provide me many opportunities to explore them further.

I've also done a rather thorough post-mortem and know exactly what kinks to iron out of my product. I know how to iron them out in a way that sets me up for what I wanna build too. So THAT'S exciting! 😊

I also need a contact form for people who end up here and don't have accounts anywhere I'm on.

As far as this site goes, while SRA isn't really what any of this is about, I have other projects that relate to it that I'll be working on too. Since I have the skills, the interests and the ability I might as well do it in public like I've always done!

It's funny how it all ties in. 😉
